Summer breezes signal a time of change. New Towne Mall helps you prepare for the season ahead. Start planning your next shopping trip by taking these notes on summer fashions.
The summer style forecast calls for going casual. The new trend is to be more comfy and less structured, with pieces such as a soft sweater in a bright, sunny color topped with a hat and sandals. Casual, but dressy, too. "Summer is a time for fun and fun colors, and frivolous details, such as ruffles and beads, do the trick," says Tiffany Veigel, manager of Maurices at New Towne Mall.
Women’s fashions are still in control, however, and this season’s power suit has structured shoulders and sleek trousers. Connie Matlick, manager of B. Moss Clothing says, "A simple tank underneath and long drop earrings keep it powerful." Connie adds that the new standard is no longer a sleek sheath dress, "a vintage-look dress that floats and wraps over the body is so much ‘newer.’ Soft, delicate fabrics, subtle handkerchief hems and romantic floral prints all help create the new ‘little black dress.’"
Teens and Tweens always have lots of choice to add adventure to their looks. This summer is no exception, but there are some definite dos and don’ts.
DON’T: Hoop Earrings – the MUST go, they make you look like a pirate
Peasant Tops – It’s been done, and it’s time for the 60s look to go back to the closet
Make-up – Less is best. Little or no make-up is the way to keep that look fresh
DO: Baseball T-shirts – They’re really cool and look good on anyone
Denim Shoes – These look awesome, stylish and cool with any outfit
Denim Jackets – There’s nothing like a good ol’ denim jacket…it goes with anything
As you may have noticed in the stores this season, fashion for men is full of bright colors, striped, checkered and even floral patterns… and a lot of athletic-inspired wear. There are two more great looks that will help men pull the trends together. Look one is the striped shirt and black pants. You may already have a striped, button-down shirt, but Charlie Brown, manager of the Buckle says, "The idea this time around is the bolder the better. Hurley or Lucky brand retro tees are also a great choice." The second look is a hoodie and light denim. The boom of athletic apparel influences men’s everyday fashion. "Light-weight hoodies and zip-up sweatshirts are coolest when they have a retro look, ranging from the logo to the color scheme," says Brown. "The most popular trend in the jeans department is a distressed, worn-out texture and linen-looking denim with a flare cut." Give Lucky or BKE brand jeans a try, and look for styles that are slightly flared at the bottom, great for wearing with anything from sneakers to sandals.
