Nation´s Leading Exercise Program for Older Adults
New Philadelphia, Ohio (November 8, 2006) -- Super Fitness will soon be offering the nation´s leading exercise program for older adults, The SilverSneakers Fitness Program.
SilverSneakers is a unique program designed for older adults to get fit, make friends and have fun through exercise and social activity. Eligible members who have Anthem Medicare Preferred, Senior Advantage or Blue Medicare Access or Humana’s Gold Choice or Choice PPO can receive a fitness membership with which they can enjoy specialized low-impact SilverSneakers fitness classes. The SilverSneakers classes will focus on improving and increasing muscular strength and endurance, mobility, flexibility, range of motion, balance, agility and coordination.
"This is a very exclusive program and has been widely embraced by seniors across the country. Super Fitness is the only fitness center in the area offering the SilverSneakers program," says Andrea Tyson, Area Manager of Super Fitness. "Super Fitness already offers a Super Seniors area in the facility designated for only those individuals 55 and older to exercise, and this program will enhance our benefits to this distinct demographic."
The average age of a SilverSneakers member is 74 and 16% are age 80 and older. The SilverSneakers program encourages our older community to be more active. In fact, 45% of people exercised less than three times per week before beginning the program. After joining, 75% say they are exercising for 30 minutes at a time, three or more days per week.
An Open House about this new program will be held on Tuesday, November 21 from 9am-12pm. This open house will include a demonstration of a sample class from 10-11am, a tour of the Super Fitness facility and the Super Seniors area.
